Endlich Fruehling/ Finally Spring

Nach einem langen Winter der bis Mitte April ging, ist seid dem 20tigsten Mai endlich Frueling und wie jedes Jahr faszinieren mich die Magnolienbaeume und wie schnell alles in der Natur explodiert.

After a long Winter which lastest until mid april spring started finally around May 20th, as every year I am amazed how quickly nature explodes and can not help myself taking pictures of my favorite magnolia flowers.

Little Italy

Wir haben einen Ausflug nach Little Italy gemacht, einen Stadtteil Montreals der liebevoll so genannt wird, weil sich dort innerhalb des letzten Jahrhunderts viele Italiener angesiedelt haben.
Montreal hat nach Toronto die zweitgroesste Anzaehl an italienischen Buergern in Kanada und viele italienische Geschaefte sind in der Innenstadt in little Italy zu finden, genauso wie ein grosser Markt, der nach der Strasse Jean-Talon benannt ist. Die Kirche Madonna della Difesa ist in der Naehe des Marktes und wurde 1918 gebaut.

We did go to Little Italy this week, a part of Montreal that has been named this way as many Italian citizens had settled in this district within the last century. Montreal has after Toronto the biggest population of Italians in Canada and therefore many restaurants and Italian shops can be found in that district including the famous Jean-Talon market and the 1918 build catholic church Madonna della Difesa.

Sie hatten gerade  vor 5 Minuten den ersten Tisch herausgeholt und wir haben ihn eingeweiht. They just took the table out 5 minutes before we came so we could inaugurate spring.

Meine Mama ist hier aus Deutschland und in den letzten zwei Tagen haben wir mal endlich schoenes Wetter. Das haben wir natuerlich gleich ausgenutzt und sind in Oka schoen zum Wandern gegangen und anschliessend zum Kaffeetrinken am See. Ein herrlicher Urlaubstag!

My mother is here from Germany and after a long winter and lots of rain we finally had beautiful weather the last two days. We profited from the sunshine and did go hiking in Oka and went for coffee at the lake afterwards. What a beautiful day!

Fruehling/ Spring

Puenktlich zum Fruehlingsanfang haben wir 15 cm Neuschnee! Auch fuer Kanadier ist der Winter langsam lange. Zur Aufmunterung habe ich mir diese interessante Plfanze gekauft.

First day of spring and it is snowing 15cm and over half a meter still everywhere. Even for Canadiens this is a long winter. I bought this beautiful plant for encouragement.

130 gal aquarium

Mein toller Mann hat mir in den letzten Monaten einen wunderschoenen und praktischen Aquarienschrank gebaut, seine super Arbeit soll hier gelobt werden. Lasst mich bitte wissen was ihr von dem Aquarium haelt ! Das Becken ist soweit fertig und wartet nur noch auf dem Einzug von den Diskusfischen, es braucht noch einen Aquariendeckel, in dem die Lichter integriert werden sollen. Momentan haben wir das Aquarium mit einer Styrophorplatte abgedeckt um einen grossen Waermeverlust zu vermeiden.

My wonderful husband has build a beautiful and practical cabinet for my 130 gal tank. I want to use this occasion to thank him and share this beautiful work with you. The aquarium is ready and just waiting for the move of the discus fish, it still needs a canopy therefore we have covered the tank temporarily with a foam board to make sure that not too much heat is lost. Happy Birthday

Claudi hatte diese Woche Geburtstag und wir waren zusammen mit ihren Freundinnen beim Essen.
Es war wie immer sehr nett. Alles Liebe nocheinmal.

My friend Claudi celebrated her birthday this week and we did go for supper with some friends. It was a very nice evening. Happy Birthday again.

Ich liebe Diskus/ I love discus

Letzten Freitag habe ich meine Babydiskusfische mit den aelteren Fischen zusammen getan, drueckt mir die Daumen, dass das gut geht. Der Schwarm ist viel ruhiger seitdem er eine groessere Gruppenstaerke hat, allerdings ist das Aquarium jetzt ueberbesetzt, aber das duerfte gehen nachdem sie alle in den naechsten 2-3 Monaten in ein 500 Liter Becken umziehen werden. Die Farben sind jedenfalls ein Traum und ich hoffe, dass ich die Fische fuer lange Zeit haben werde.

On Friday I have put my baby discus with my older ones, keep fingers crossed that everything goes well, the tank is overstocked now but it should be ok as the fish will move within the next 2-3 months in a 130 gal aquarium. On the other hand are the fish much calmer since the group got bigger. The colours are spectacular and I hope to have these fish for a long time.
